Girl let me tell you....
I had to stop and take inventory of my life the other day. I was doing my early morning prayer and I was telling God what I was thankful for and I said my friends and I was stopped right in my tracks. You know usually when you say what you are thankful for you create a laundry list of things and you say them one after another however when I got to friends I had to take a second...
See I have had "friends" who have slept with my man, slept with my man and then stayed at my place the same night, stole my money, stayed in my mothers home and acted as though she was a burden, taken my clothes, left me on read for years, not celebrated my accomplishments, degraded me, disrespected my family, and even broken my heart...
But let me tell you about the friends I do have... Sometimes in life you are blessed with two or three good friends and I believe that you can be fully fulfilled with those. My mother has had the same five girlfriends since she was in the 6h grade. Those women helped raise me, shape me, and they always have my mother's back even when she does not deserve it.... Well let me just say that God blessed your girl because he gave me an ABUNDANCE of wonderful tried and true friends.
I have 5 core friends who have been by my side for over a decade. They keep me grounded, encourage me to do my best, and are my biggest cheerleaders. After that, I have at least ten solid, proven, and unshakeable friends who have been in my life for years who make the days easier.
I can't say that I have always been the best friend. Hell, I look at some of the friendships I have had and think I was down right trash as a friend. I forget to text or call back, I put my insecurities first, I am typically harsh and can lack empathy, and I can be a bit of a clown. I think it is important to acknowledge your village and to pay respect for the time, love, and energy that people are giving to you. Love is the greatest thing that we have in this life and the love, correction, and direction from a real friend can change your life. I don't know where I would be without my friends and I must say I thank God for giving them to me.
Girl I just wish everyone would take a second to think about their tribe and tell them thank you for all that they have done. Hell if they don't have one, they have to take a look at themselves. It takes a friend to have a friend and sometimes the problem really is YOU. I have been there before, and I promise you can turn it around...
We can do it sis, just trust the process.
